Statewide Monitoring of Truck TrufficUsingAutomatic Vehicle Classifiers
نویسندگان
چکیده
In the past. collection of vehicle classification (VC) data was difficult and costly. Such data often had to be collected manually. Recently, considerable advances have been made concerning automatic vehicle-classifier (AVC) technology. AVCS are devices capable of providing a record of vehicle volume with respect to vehicle type. Most highway agencies in North America now employ permanent automatic vehicle classifiers (PAVC) at some locations on their networks. In addition, there is a considerable interest on the part of these agencies to expand their existing PAVC programs and use available portable AVC technology to undertake seasonal and short-period vehicle classification counts. While AVC technology has advanced considerably in the past few years, the practices of collection, analysis and application of AVC data have not progressed similarly. The main objectives of this study are 1) to demonstrate the need for an accurate truck volume and classification data in overlay designs of pavement: 2) to study temporal and spatial variations in vehicle composition and truck volume at a number of PAVC sites located in the Canadian provinces of Alberta and Saskatchewan; and 3) to study errors associated with sample estimates of truck annual average daily traffic (TAADT) and vehicle classification.

Statewide Heavy-Truck Crash Assessment tech transfer summary
This study used the most current statewide crash data to perform an indepth analysis of heavy-truck crashes in Iowa. This study also attempted to assess crash experience with respect to commercial driver’s license (CDL) licensure. In addition, this study used citation data from the Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) Motor Vehicle Division and Iowa State Patrol to investigate the possible r...
متن کاملForecasting Truck VMT Growth at the County and Statewide Levels
In this study, statistical models were developed to forecast truck VMT growth of four facility categories at the county and statewide levels. These models incorporate both socioeconomic and transportation system supply variables. Different model specifications were tested and evaluated in terms of statistical and forecasting validity. A selected set of models was used to forecast truck VMT for ...
متن کاملTruck-based mobile wireless sensor networks for the experimental observation of vehicle--bridge interaction
Heavy vehicles driving over a bridge create a complex dynamic phenomenon known as vehicle–bridge interaction. In recent years, interest in vehicle–bridge interaction has grown because a deeper understanding of the phenomena can lead to improvements in bridge design methods while enhancing the accuracy of structural health monitoring techniques. The mobility of wireless sensors can be leveraged ...
متن کاملStudy of Vibration Specifications of a Three-axle Truck Using Lagrange Method
In this research, Ride quality of a three-axle truck is investigated to understand its vibration specifications and influence of it on special load. The truck is Benz 2624, and the load is rather sensitive to vibrations. The system is considered for an off-road duty. Hence, the vehicle is modeled as a nineteen-degree of freedom system and its equations of motion are derived by employing Lagrang...
متن کاملClosed-loop Pallet Engagement in an Unstructured Environment
This paper addresses the problem of autonomous manipulation of a priori unknown palletized cargo with a robotic lift truck. More specifically, we describe coupled perception and control algorithms that enable the vehicle to engage and drop off loaded pallets relative to locations on the ground or arbitrary truck beds. With little prior knowledge of the objects with which the vehicle is to inter...
